1970's Party Invitations

​A 1970s theme party is a party that celebrates the culture and style of the 1970s, a decade marked by disco, funk, rock, and soul music, as well as social movements such as feminism, environmentalism, and civil rights. Some 1970s party themes are:
  • ​Disco party: Decorate with disco balls, strobe lights, neon signs, and glitter. Encourage guests to dress up in bell-bottoms, platform shoes, jumpsuits, and sequins. Play some classic disco hits, such as Stayin’ Alive, I Will Survive, and Dancing Queen, and have a dance contest or a karaoke session.
  • Funk party: Decorate with colorful balloons, streamers, and posters of funk icons, such as James Brown, Parliament-Funkadelic, and Sly and the Family Stone. Encourage guests to dress up in afros, sunglasses, and flashy outfits. Play some groovy funk tunes, such as Superstition, Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine, and Give Up the Funk, and have a lip-sync battle or a trivia game.
  • Rock party: Decorate with vinyl records, guitars, and posters of rock legends, such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and The Rolling Stones. Encourage guests to dress up in leather jackets, band t-shirts, and ripped jeans. Play some epic rock anthems, such as Stairway to Heaven, Another Brick in the Wall, and Satisfaction, and have a air guitar contest or a rock quiz.
Back in the seventies, people were basically choosing one of two sides, you either liked Disco, or you hated it.  Those on the opposing side of this great debate, curated a sound that is now known as Classic Rock. 

Both are super fun themes for a retro party. 

Bell bottom jeans were still "a thing" and wearing crazy colors and mixed patterns was considered "far out". Hot pants and jumpsuits were high fashion while doing the Hustle and the Bump and even though platform shoes twisted many an ankle we wore them with pride.
