Do the Twist for Fun, Good Health, and Great Exercise
If you're getting a little older this year, and really who isn't, and you're looking for a fun way to exercise then, Come On Baby, let's do The Twist together.
Blogging and sitting at a computer all day leads to a pretty sedentary lifestyle for me so for my New Year's resolution this year, I'm looking for ways to get a little more exercise.
I already do the "parking at the rear of the parking lot" so that I have to walk further to get into the store or restaurant and I make good use of the set of stairs in my house several times a day.
When weather permits my hubby and I go for a walk around our neighborhood park but with winter upon us, and me hating to feel cold, I wanted something indoors that I could do at home without buying any special equipment.
Honestly, the basis for the idea came to me from a late night commercial that I keep seeing about dancing your way to fitness but the hip-hop dance moves seem a little too much for me to handle. Then it hit me, why not use a different dance to get myself moving?
And my retro exercise resolution for this year was born. I'm going to twisty twisty Twist, until I lose a few pounds.
Necessary Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor nor do I play one on the computer so don't try this at home unless you're super healthy and able to dance. Also, stop when you feel tired or out of breath. Dancing as exercise is not for everyone.
Twist On Down
Watch and learn!
Whether you do it fast or slow... go up and down or stay at one level, you have to admit that doing The Twist will give you a good workout.
If you're unfamiliar, watch this video to hear Chubby Checker sing it and to learn the steps. The easiest way to describe it is to think of yourself holding a towel in your two hands behind your back and begin pulling it back and forth on your bottom.
After you know how, then, play the video again and dance along for some great exercise.
Twisting My Way to Good Health
I've only just begun this newfangled yet very old-fashioned form of exercise so I can't make any claims about how much weight I've lost or even about how good I feel but I can tell you that it has added a bit of whimsy and fun to my day.
I've started with 3 sets of Twists per session (I use Youtube for the music and let three songs run in a row.) and I've been doing two sessions per day; one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
I can tell you that after just under a week of this, I feel less depressed about the cold winter days and instead of begrudging it, I find myself looking forward to my next exercise set.
One of these days I might just turn into that crazy cat lady and this Retro I Love Cats tee is going to be my uniform. I love the simplicity and colors in this tee. Each of the five cats is a different color including aqua, yellow, green, purple and red. The unique pattern on the cats has a pop art flair. This tee would also make a great gift for your favorite feline lovers. Or grab a few for your friends and head out to dinner in these tees which are sure to be a conversation starter. - Bonnie
Give me comfort or give me... well, I don't want to go as far as to say give me death but I certainly do love me a great pair of well-worn blue jeans and a comfy t-shirt. In fact, that's my costume nearly every day. And I truly love when my tees have fun retro images on them. That's why I'm starting this series of blog posts that will all feature some truly awesome and awe-inspiring modern retro t-shirts.
Today's hip find is a fun shirt with a huge pair of cat eye glasses dangling on the front of it. Just to be clear, this is an image of a pair of retro-look lenses, not actual eyewear. The design is super cute just the same.
Cherry red Rockabilly cat-eye glasses look like they're hanging from a delicate chain.
Shown here on a women's lime green American Apparel fine Jersey shirt, this design is also available in just about every style, color and size you can think of.

Cat eye glasses were originally popular in the 1950's and 60's. Much like an actual cat's eye, the outer edge of the eyeglasses swept upwards on an angle.
Chances are, if you picture a woman wearing a beehive hairdo, she's wearing these classic specs.

A few years ago I designed this Retro Greetings from Georgia postcard. It was inspired the by 1950's notion that you'd send people a greeting when visiting a state. This card has become very popular over the years and I've sold more than 500 of these postcards.
The card has a fun retro design that depicts Georgia as the Peach State that it is. So if you're planning a trip to Georgia pick up some of these cards to share your destination. -Bonnie
