![]() If you're planning a party with a 1950's theme, don't forget the sock hop music. Rock and Roll was literally born during this decade of twisting turning teenagers. You don't need to be a teen to enjoy the dance music of the day. Anyone can get moving to this now-seems-pretty-tame-but-was-once-considered-wild music. There's tons of great tunes to choose from but there are definitely some that would be missed if you didn't play them... loud. Here's 5 fun all-time favorite 50's dance songs that are guaranteed to get your guests up and onto the dance floor. They're not listed in any special order. Shout by the Isley Brothers This one is pure gold for getting everyone at the gathering, including people of all ages, up and moving and having a tone of fun. It was released in 1959 so be sure to include it in your 1950's theme party play list. You can learn more about Shout by the Isley Brothers HERE. I've also included Wikipedia links to each of the other 4 songs I listed in this post so you can read up on their histories as well. Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley & His Comets Rock Around the Clock is another terrific tune that inspires a lot of fun and crazy dance moves. The most popular version was recorded by Bill Haley and his Comets in 1954. It has a great beat and you can definitely dance to it. At the Hop by Danny and the Juniors I dare anyone to listen to At the Hop by Danny and the Juniors while sitting completely still. It will never happen. Those toes just can help but tapping and before you know it, you're dancing up a storm. The Stroll by the Diamonds The Stroll became popular in the late 1950's and was featured by Dick Clark on American Bandstand. It's a great way to slow things down a bit and let each of your guests show off their strut. The Twist by Chubby Checker Chubby Checker actually recorded his version of The Twist in 1960 but trust me, no one will know and even if they do, they really won't care because this song is so much fun to dance to and it certainly feels like a full blown 50's dance song. So, those are my top choices but there's so many more really great ones. Share the name of your favorite Nineteen-Fifties dance tune in the comments below to help out a fellow reader. Thanks!
